The
(BFM 87.6) - PCYC Radio Program
BFM 87.6
In February 2003 the Beenleigh PCYC
started on an ambitious project to establish
a working FM radio station at our Alamein
Street premesis so that we could offer
a voice to the youth of our community.
The initial plan was to set up a training
program so that the station could be
run by the young members, and we did
that with the commencement of our Radio
Club program. Sixteen young people between
14 and 30 years of age undertook our
first training program and it was an
instant success with incredible achievements
being made by everyone who was part
of the Radio Team.
WFD Radio
With this success under our belt we
decided to introduce a different component
to the running of the station with a
Commonwealth Government Work for the
Dole program. Long term unemployed people
were given the opportunity to help run
the station and take part in a twice
weekly show called 'The Hype' (previously
V.I.P). This was a huge success as well.
School Radio
With the growing popularity of our
training program, we found that there
was an ever increasing number of High
School students enrolling in the program.
To accomodate for this increase in popularity
we started our School Radio Program.
An invitation was sent to all the local
High Schools, and groups of students
from each school undertook the training.
The intention - to go back to school
after the training and set up their
own Radio Studio that links back to
our main studio, and the kids go live
to air without them leaving their individual
Schools. The school radio program is
still in the setup process and looks
very exciting.
